About Kathy
Both my professional and personal experiences have uniquely equipped me in how I understand people within their cultural backgrounds. I was born in Taiwan and raised in an immigrant family, lived abroad in Spain (which inspired me to add a Spanish minor to my college Psychology major!), worked with at-risk youth in New York City, and parent my young adult and teen children. I have experience working in academic settings, mental health facilities, faith-based ministries, and nonprofit organizations, along with a season of full time parenting.
I began my career nearly 30 years ago, with an early focus on the Asian American community. During my graduate fieldwork in New York City, I developed an Asian American therapy group at Henry Street Settlement, which was formally established a year later and continues to serve the community to this day (Asian Bicultural Mental Health Services)!
Life has also brought unexpected chapters of my own. As a breast cancer survivor, I understand personally how quickly life can change and how those changes can affect our priorities, relationships, and hopes for the future. That experience deepened my appreciation for resilience, connection, and living with intention and purpose.
While my Christian faith shapes who I am and how I care for others, I welcome clients of all faiths and backgrounds. I recognize that the church can be a place of healing and community, and for some, a place of hurt. For those that request to integrate their faith, there is a space here to do that authentically.
A little more about me
Outside of work, I’m an avid traveler and a big foodie. It’s a big world out there with so much to explore! I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, grabbing coffee with new and longtime friends, discovering new places and foods, and being a life-long learner!
