Frequently Asked Questions
First, I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to reach out and care for yourself! Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and discuss your reasons for reaching out. We’ll explore your goals and what you hope to get out of therapy.
Currently, I provide only online telehealth sessions for therapy and case consultations. Speaking engagements can be online or in person in the San Diego area. Please reach out for rates outside the San Diego area.
We’ll meet through a secure audio-video platform for Kathy Liu Counseling via the Simple Practice website. A new secure personalized link will be emailed 24 hours prior to each session.
I’m in network with Aetna. For all other insurance, I would be considered an out of network provider and can offer a monthly superbill (list of services) to submit for possible partial insurance reimbursement. If you have out of network benefits, please ask your insurance company: 1. What are my mental health out of network benefits?2. What is my out of network deductible and how much have I met?3. If therapy sessions are $175 , how much will I get reimbursed (CPT code 90837)?
Individual sessions are 55 minutes for $175. For speaking engagements, please reach out for fees.
Scheduled time is reserved specifically for you. As such, sessions cancelled less than 24 hours notice will incur the full fee.
Please reach out using the inquiry form to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation. It will give us a chance to connect and see if we would be a good fit to work together.
If you choose not to use insurance or decide to do private pay, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your counseling services. Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to dispute your bill if it is more than $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate. Kathy Liu Counseling will provide an estimate of expected charges as required by law. The estimate is not a guarantee of the final cost and may be updated if services or fees change. https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
